The MIGenWeb Project
In March and April, 1996, a group of genealogists organized the MIGenWeb Project. The idea was to provide a single entry point for all Michigan counties, where collected databases would be stored. In addition, the databases would be indexed and cross-linked, so that even if an individual were found in more than one county, they could be located in the index.
At the same time, volunteers were found who were willing to coordinate the collection of databases and generally oversee the contents of the web page.

Take a look at Surrounding Counties
It is best to also check records in surrounding counties for your ancestors also. Some of the reasons are: New counties divided out of old larger counties as the population grew. Many of Baraga Co. residents traveled to other counties for business and legal matters. Some records are there because they had family in that county and when they visited they stayed for long periods due to transportation, and a major life event would take place such as births, deaths, illness. Another reason is a family lived on the edge of Baraga Co. and were closer to a larger town in the next county, and went there to register a vital event.
